A composite filling repairs a tooth affected by decay, cracks or fractures. We remove the damaged part of the tooth and fill it with tooth-colored composite.

Composite and silver amalgam fillings are the most widely used today. Because composite can be closely matched to the color of your teeth, it’s well suited to front teeth and other visible areas. Composite fillings are very durable and last many years, though they may someday need replacing.

Used for

  • Chipped teeth
  • Closing a gap between two teeth
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Decayed teeth
  • Worn teeth

What to expect

Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment.

  1. While the tooth is numb, we remove the decay.
  2. The space is cleaned and carefully prepared. If the decay was near the nerve, we apply a protective medication.
  3. The filling is placed, shaped and polished to restore your tooth’s shape and function.

Some sensitivity to hot and cold is normal at first and fades as the tooth adjusts. Good oral hygiene, healthy eating and regular dental visits help your fillings last.
